Knowle DGE Sixth Form update

The Knowle DGE Sixth Form is progressing well. The new building will host 5 tutor rooms, a Sports hall, Science lab, Cooking room, DT room, Life skills room, Construction workshop and yard. The building will also have a library, multi-professional spaces and a full working kitchen. The Sixth Form will be complemented with an Independent Living Home used by each student several weeks a term to develop their independence and preparation for living in the community. The home will feel like a small shared house with adult support to help develop cooking, budgeting, employment and living skills.

The Sixth form is now water tight after a set-back from a fire in the roof. Skanska are working hard to make up as much time as possible and hope to hand the building to Knowle DGE in mid March and we look forward to utilising the building as soon as possible. Skanska plan to finish all external landscaping and roads by Christmas and then focus on internal finishes in the new year.

Current Sixth Form Students have been taking the opportunity to participate in regular site visits to become familiar with their new home and to learn more about the construction industry and the possible employment opportunities.

The Sixth Form and home will boast many green credentials including solar power, air source heat pumps, heat recovery systems and the planting of over 60 trees.
