About Brook Academy

Work to build the new special school in Brockworth is well underway.

Brook Academy on Mill Lane in Brockworth is due to open in September 2022 for children aged 11 to 16.

Construction work on site is being led by family-run Gloucester firm EG Carter, and work began in May.

Brook Academy will mainly cater for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, but will also support children with autism and speech, language and communication needs.

In line with Gloucestershire County Council’s 2019 declaration of a Climate Emergency the building is designed to include a variety of enhanced environmental measures, including solar panels on the roof of the school.

Children needing this type of school currently have to travel out of the county or to independent schools to meet their educational needs.

The provision of the new school will also allow children to access the education and support they need closer to home.
