Learning and Community Facilitator 

Learn@ MAT Central ALP,  St Philips, Bristol

Part-Time, 3 days per week

BG8 £22,627 - £24,491 pro rata

The curriculum at the ALP is to work with young people to break down barriers to learning, the weight of community expectation and ultimately be confident in their ability to succeed. This is underpinned by the principles of:

Purpose of the Job

  • To work in partnership with the class teacher and the Assistant Head to support the engagement of learning both in the classroom and during offsite activities
  • To demonstrate an understanding of trauma informed practice and attachment disorder through positive interactions with young people
  • To work with pupils, families and staff at the ALP to improve pupil’s engagement in accessing education
  • To advocate for young people and ensure their voice is heard

General Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to students’ needs as appropriate
  • To contribute to the care of the student by also undertaking a lunchtime supervisory role, up to 3 days a week
  • To take responsibility for the preparation, maintenance and control of stocks of materials and resources
  • Working with individuals or groups of students to support the engagement of learning
  • Understand specific learning needs and styles and provide differentiated support to students individually and within a group
  • Establish positive relationships with students build on trust and respect
  • Provide feedback to students in relation to attainment and progress under the guidance of the teacher
  • Support and encourage students with offsite activities and learning opportunities
  • Support the use of ICT in and out the classroom and develop students’ competence and independence in its use
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of children with special needs within the classroom ensuring access to lessons and their content through appropriate clarification, explanation and resources
  • Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with school policies and help keep students on task
  • Write reports and records as required
  • Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievements, resolving all but the most complex problems independently
  • To be involved in planning, organising and implementing BSPs, including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews
  • To attend to students’ personal needs including help with social, welfare and health matters, including minor first aid.
  • Liaise with staff and other relevant professionals and provide information about students as appropriate
  • To assist with the display and presentation of students’ work
  • To assist with escorting students on educational visits and during offsite activities

  • To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
  • To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace

Kitchen Manager

St Matthias Academy, Fishponds

St Matthias Academy are seeking to appoint an honest, hardworking and reliable person with an ability to relate well to children and adults to join our, happy, vibrant and successful school.

Working under the supervision of the Headteacher, the Kitchen manager will create run the Kitchen and serve meals for up to all pupils and all members of staff. The Kitchen manager will be in charge of their own budget and adhere to the Health and safety and food preparation protocols.

Learning Support Assistant

St Matthias Academy, Fishponds, Brentry and Easton LEAP

We are looking for three outstanding and inspirational Learning Support Assistants to work with us. St Matthias Academy offers full time education for pupils who have been permanently excluded and for those at risk of permanent exclusion from schools across the Centre, North and East of the City of Bristol and the LEAP based at Easton C of E Academy.  We work to create a learning environment which encourages the development of mutual respect, positive relationships and social responsibility leading towards educational and personal success.

Under the guidance of a teacher, provide direct support for the learning of individual young people or groups of young people to achieve defined progression targets in the pupil’s teaching and learning plans through:

  • carrying out outreach support and 1:1 tutoring
  • recording and reporting individual pupil progress
  • delivering activities, interventions, empathetic and sympathetic listening, direct guidance and the provision of appropriate positive feedback to behaviour
  • facilitating young people’s general physical, emotional and educational development
  • supervising and encouraging safe behaviour of individual and groups
  • reinforcement of structured learning habits

Assistant Caretaker

St Matthias Academy, Fishponds

Part time - 10 hours per week

Purpose of the Job

To monitor the security of the school buildings, carry out a programme of maintenance work and monitor the repair and maintenance work of others.

Key Job Outcomes

  1. Security

To ensure the safety and security of designated buildings by

  • Limiting access to authorised personnel;
  • Responding appropriately to emergencies;
  • Locking and unlocking the school buildings and grounds;
  • Working safely and sharing H&S information with the other school staff.
  1. Maintenance

To ensure the maintenance of the school’s grounds, buildings and facilities to standards proscribed by the Academy Council by

    • Responding to the routine maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities;
    • Carrying out exempt cleaning and sweeping the playground clear of leaves, litter and sharp objects;
    • Carrying out a range of handy person duties and portering as per the work specification;
    • Ensuring that items of equipment and disposable resources pertaining to the job are stored securely.

Receptionist/Administrator

St Matthias Academy, Easton LEAP

The role is varied and demanding and you must be prepared to be flexible, responsive, tactful and respectful in a busy working environment.

All support staff are part of a whole Trust team. They are required to support the values and ethos of the Trust. This will mean focusing on the needs of the young people, staff, parents/ carers and Trustees of the Trust and being flexible whilst prioritising workload and meeting deadlines in a busy pressurised environment.

As part of Learn@ MAT, St Matthias Academy specialises in working with young people who have been or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. The Trust offers a range of provision including day Academy and residential Academy places, short-break care and Alternative Education courses. It has a range of specialised Academies including a new “state of the art” purpose-built Academy in South Bristol; centrally based well-established sites in Central and East Bristol; and a charming country residential site in rural Wiltshire.

The successful applicant will be joining a small friendly team at St Matthias Academy based primarily at the Easton site.

The Receptionist/Administrator will provide:

  • To be the first point of contact for all visitors and callers which will contribute to the effective and efficient running of the Provision and ensuring safeguarding polices are adhered to
  • To provide administrative support to St Matthias Academy
  • To respond to a range of routine and more complex face to face, written and telephone enquiries either directly where appropriate or by referral to relevant colleague, effectively monitoring telephone and email messages and forwarding to the relevant member of staff
  • To arrange and monitor transport arrangements for the students, to include booking and cancelling taxi journeys and arranging bus passes
  • Efficiently maintain student attendance for St Matthias Academy, to include completion of registers on SIMS and phone calls home for students not attending
  • Maintain the filing system for prompt retrieval of information 
  • Maintain and update spreadsheets and databases and other applications for prompt retrieval of information and to ensure all systems are kept up to date and within statutory time scales
  • Produce and assist in collating information as required for written documents as requested by the Senior Leadership Team, to include letters, reports, emails, schedules and newsletters
  • Deal sensitively and effectively with child protection matters
  • Undertake general offices duties, to include the opening and sorting of post, filing and photocopying
